Gauging interest in a complete Google Earth airfield tour...
I have been compiling, for some time now, a complete Google Earth tour of all the airfields of the Solomons, New Guinea, and the Philippines areas. I have used the text from the pacific wrecks website, and it will be arranged to play in a roughly chronologic order. Would anyone be interested in this if I posted it?

Absolutely yes.....you have beaten me to do this....I am currently working on dedicated and/or used WW2 strips north of the 26th parallel in Oz.
I have looked at the strips in PNG that I have used in a random fashion.
The latest mosaic of POM is interesting, I can get down to 1200 ft.!
I can see my house ,carport etc in Waigani (Waigani Drive) along with a car and pedestrian at the gas station (?) next door.
Great stuff........regards Dave G

I'm not out to "beat" anyone to it, it's just I've gotten to like making Google Earth tours, and on this one, I'll be using some tricks like using photos from the website, basic HTML stuff, and advanced views, etc. It'll be slicker than snot when I'm finished. I should have it done next week. My first tours are the major USAF, USN, and USMC airbases of the world, and I also placemarked and labeled every single USN warship in the world...that one took a long time...
July 21 Update
I have been occupied w/ other stuff, but I am approaching completion of this project. I have bogged down in the Celebes-Philippines region, these airfields are hard! Especially on Negros Island, I think finally pinned down Carolina field...
Anyways, I have only the rest of those Indonesian area locations, then the Central Pacific (should be easy, since the islands are so tiny) to finish up.

Hi...Do you think that the US Navy would object to you "pinpointing and labeling" every ship? I'm pretty sure that they would!
cheers!

Yes, I would be interested ! My father was with the 66th TC SQ in New Guniea. I have the 66th's records for this period which contain info on air field conditions. I have been trying to piece together events, battles, etc, as the number "mission fields" and loads increased during 1943 - 1945. There are many tables, by month, which reflect the number missions and tons carried to each. Some include type of materials and personnel, by organization. My dad told me that sometimes, they would fly 6 - 8 missions a day.
I have started compiling a list of fields, but am also working on crew missions flown, by each crew member, and idenfifying aircraft by SNs and field #s. Way too much to chew, so I would be glad to pull the air field info for each month and send it to you.
My father-in-law was with the 370th Bomb Sq in the Pacific - the 370th's recrods are next.
