U.S.S. Juneau Wreck

Post by ziggy290 »

Howdy, i am a new member of the site and i noticed in the info on the wreck of the uss juneau it says that 3 torpedoes were fired at the task force and 1 hit the juneau, but looking back at some books i see that the japanese sub that fired the fish only had 2 tubes functioning due to coral reef grounding damage and only fired 2 torps. did anyone else catch this or am i the first? The juneau had the sullivan brothers onboard and all were lost (5)

The info source that i used is from the book: "Left to die"-the tragedy of the USS Juneau by Dan Kurzman.

Interesting. There is conflicting information about this. Some sources say three torpedoes were fired others say two.
Here is a link to a fairly detailed description of the the I-26's movements. It notes that 3 tubes were damaged (out of the six forward tubes) in the grounding on 18 Oct 42 and relates that three torpedoes were fired at the Juneau on 13 Nov 42.
