Pilot found hanging in tree on the Kokoda track PNG

Hi all came accross this news report today about a supposed WWII pilot still hanging in a tree on the Kokoda Track in PNG. I doubt is from WWII but lets see what they find. Cheers Rod

A good picture on the 'Age' newspaper site. Very spooky. Dont think there has been anyone bailing out into the rainforest up that way since the War.At the cold high altitudes, some materials wouldnt rot away like down on the tropic coast. A most fascinating and remarkable find. Lets hope some detailed archeology on the ground below, and recovery from the trees above will tell us who he was, and when he died. So we may honor his passing and contemplate his lonely death. RIP

Rediculous. A corpse in that climate would disintegrate in a matter of days. I've found many skeletons in caves from WWII and no clothing has ever survived the harsh climates. Hoax, nothing more.

Yes, we can all be sceptical. Look at the picture and make up your own mind. In certain environments fabrics, bones and other things last longer than as usually accepted. I dont claim... nor does the originator that there is a "body" there, that would have disintergrated, but there will be bones, teeth etc. and any artifacts, long fallen to the ground. On another PNG mountain remains were found with 'chute, bones ... and a section of skull with scalp and hair in the alpine heath.
The finder was a Kokoda Trail trekker, a policeman, who would have no reason to lie or create a hoax. And it is said that the local folk didn't know of it, and why should they. Unless they just happened to be out hunting and look up to shoot a bird or possum... "he" would remain unseen and MIA
It will be fascinating to read of any follow up and the ulimate outcome.

DISCOUNTED - KOKODA TRACK REPORT
Australian Defence Force staff from the Australian High Commission in Port
Moresby today reached an isolated site on the Kokoda Track to check
reports that the body of an airman was located in the jungle canopy.
No remains were located.
While the location, near Kagi, is below a flight path that was commonly
used by allied aircraft during WWII sorties, the find has been confirmed
by ADF staff as a moss covered branch.
It appears the branch has broken off the main tree and fallen across some
vines, which from the ground, could have been confused with the body of an
airman.
