Captain P.W. McIntyre, Died 5 June 1942

Captain Patrick W. McIntyre was a member of HQ 19th Bombardment Group when he and his crew were killed in a aircraft (bomber) accident near Archerfield Brisbane circa 5 June 1942. Aboard this aircraft were two civilians working for the Glen Martin Aircraft Company.

Can anyone provide any information on the loss of Captain McIntyre and his Crew? What aircraft were they flying (was it a B-26 Marauder)? Where did it crash? Is there an accident report or any story/narrative about the incident?

Thanks

Sounds like this pilot was flying a Martin B-26 Marauder as the two civilians worked for the Martian aircraft company. As most know the B-26 had many problems and from the sounds of it they were doing test flights before the crash.

Adding to this during this time period production models of B-26 and B-26A's were in Australia about this time, these models had a bad reputation and was nicknamed "Widowmakers" and "Flying Coffins as so many crashed, it wasn't till the C models came out that they became more stable and developed the lowest loss rate of any American bomber in World War II.

Update,

Some research has revealed that this may well have been a combat damaged 22nd BG B-26 that, after some rudimentary repairs at Townsville locality , was being ferried down from there to Archerfield for major repairs. Research is now centering on damaged B-26s circa Mid May to early June 42

Hi Gordy,

I haven't been here on this forum for ages, & it's so good to see the searching continuing; for which I thank you! :)
Patrick was married & had a daughter. I believe (from WWII newspaper article/s) that his wife & daughter moved away from Michigan Illinois, maybe just before his death announcement.
There apparently is some kind of official death notice, but as I am not a paid-up member (where the search result led me), as yet I've not been able to read it.
However, I am a 'world' membership subscriptionee to Ancestry dot com, so will try there later.
I have pinpointed the apartment where his parents lived, & am happy to send you a zipped folder of GE (Google Earth) placemarks concerning Capt Patrick W. McIntyre, & include the various other bits I have, if you like.
Please email me if so (I will 'pm' you here details & my email address etc :) )

Coincidentally, while doing a search just now (that's how come I came back to this forum :) ), I stumbled across a Catholic newspaper article on him; lower-centre:-
http://arc.stparchive.com/Archive/ARC/A ... 942p06.php

look for "Nun recalls teaching"....
The sister mentioned here may help find any descendants/cousins/siblings etc?.
