Admiral Yamamotos plane wreck

Post by danleone »

Hello,
My name is Dan Leone and I live in Houston, Texas. I recently saw a
picture of a wrecked Betty Bomber that is supposed to be Admiral Yama-
motos plane.
My questions are where and what island is it located? Can you go see
it? If so, how do you go about getting there? Any info is appreciated.
Dan

Yamamoto's G4M1 (c/n 2656) is located near Buin on the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.

Details of the wreck can be found on the database at:

I'm yet to visit the site, though I know numerous other PWD contributors have been there.

Maybe we should organize a trip there? I've always wanted to go and I bet there are several others who are willing to take it as well. Any ideas?
