I suspect that at some time, someone has tried to salvage this airplane.

In one of the photos, the centre section looks complete, but appears to be upside down.

No way that a crash would take that off as neatly as it has.

My understanding and I will check with mates, is that the Gibson Girl transmits a distress signal which is produced by turning the handle.

My understanding is that it had a long range.

My understanding, that this is the last RAAF C47 from WW2 that has not been found.

It was the subject of posting previously, but concrete information was forth coming.

The general feeling was that the airplane was lost in the sea.

My understanding there are no B17's in Australia, there could be small pieces left from crashes, but to my knowledge there are no complete airframes. This airplane is an E model, which to my understanding again, unless the one at Black Cat pass is an E model, makes it the only one left in the world....

When I was based in Darwin in 1961, I visited the site, however the centre wreckage was guarded by two rather large snakes.

Pays to get all the good oil when one goes visiting.
