The "Bloody Shambles" series of books covers the air war in the 'Far East' extremely well. I believe the third volume concentrates on the RAF in places (including what is now Myanmar) between 1943 and 1945.

According to the ABMC website, Sgt Harold J Gross, 39244301 went MIA on February 15, 1944 while serving with the 71st BS, 38th BG.

Unfortunately I don't have any further information at hand.
