Re: QANTAS Catalina on the way

Hi Rod

That's a different Cat that was in Australia before the QANTAS aircraft left Portugal. With the arrival of the QANTAS Cat, we'll have three airworthy ones here. How cool is that?

Re: AHS Centaur wreck found

Completely agree with you on all points there, Dean. Finding the Centaur is wonderful and hopefully gets people thinking about the Montevideo Maru.

I'd like to see another attempt to find the USS Indianapolis but, obviously, Australian government funds wouldn't be forthcoming there!

Re: What Pacific based book are you reading at the moment?

Hi Bob

Just over $90 with postage thrown in. A bit beyond my resources at present unfortunately (given my recent book buying bonanza!).

I think a show at Chino would be your best bet.

Thanks Baders. I tracked Neville down but can't afford a copy of his latest printing unfortunately.

QANTAS Catalina on the way

Has anyone been following the Cat Qantas has acquired in Spain or Portugal? The jury's still out as to whether they'll fly her as a 'Double Sunrise' Cat or a post-war 'airliner'. As of Oct 17, she was in Thailand with a few issues. A few pics here: http://www.qfm.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&...

Re: Lockheed Hudson A16-112

Saw her fly for the first time in September just gone. She's my favourite aircraft in the Temora collection. Oh to see her fly with a Boston, Beaufort or, dare I say it, Beaufighter. Love the twins.

Re: Beaufort Bomber A9-141

Don't know how I missed this, W-F. Great looking work on the Beaufort. I spent a few days back in 2001 doing some sandblasting and rivet drilling when they were still in the workshop in Brisbane. She was awe-inspiring then and looks even better now.

Re: Help finding a crashed B-17 in New Guinea

All the best with your search, rbreak. I'm afraid I can't help immediately but I am intrigued by the date of the crash. By 1945 (and I'm no expert) the Fortress in the Pacific had been largely replaced as a heavy bomber by the Lib. I would have thought any Forts still operating in the region would h...

I've been after that Beau book for a while now, Baders. Where did you find your copy?

Just started Crosley's They Gave Me A Seafire - his wartime career sees him end up in the Pacific with the RN's 'forgotten fleet'.

Re: 394th Bomb Squadron B-17Es

Apologies for posting without any useful info, Steve, but just thought I'd thank you for the pics. Haven't seen a nose gun mod like that for a while (been deep into C'th air forces in Nth Africa, Burma and Oz).

Been on holiday and moved interstate but have recently knocked over Drury's wordy Halsey's Typhoon and Hornfischer's brilliant The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors.

Re: What Pacific based book are you reading at the moment?

Just re-read "Nanette" by Edwards Park. A classic tale of a P39 pilot, his aerolplane, and his New Guinea adventures and the air battles for Port Moresby. Not a lot out there covering that specific period. His expanded version is "Angels Twenty" Top reads!!! Richard, have you come across Jim Morehe...
