Re: Looking for a ship wrecked in 1942 map ref: 175.45 W

NEW FIND I have found Joseph joining the crew a ship called 'the Panama' on April the 10th 1942 . The Ship had travelled from Bermuda to Boston. I think it was quite a small ship and tanker possibly. The crew are mixed nationalities and the full compliment seems to be around 40 after some left and o...

I have found Joseph on another ship. April 1942

More information.
He signed onto the ship 'Panama' on the 10th of April 1942 at the port of Boston. 40 Crew of mixed nationality.
Joe is again down as Canadian
The ship had come from Bermuda to Boston.
I have not been able to find out if this could possibly be the ship that sunk.

Re: Looking for a ship wrecked in 1942 map ref: 175.45 W

So this does prove that the shipwrecked seaman on page 13 did not necessarily board on the 9th of June in Melbourne. I have also been thinking about the Oropos too. First of all thank you for finding me this elusive ship. But now I see it is a Norwegian ship, I think he may have only signed for the ...

Re: Looking for a ship wrecked in 1942 map ref: 175.45 W

Thank you once more. Page 13 has Joseph on it, and is the one that appears to have left Melbourne on the 9th of June. On there there is a mixture of nationalities, but on the other page where they appear to have been picked up at Christobel CZ are English I had noticed that later today, so I think t...

Re: Looking for a ship wrecked in 1942 map ref: 175.45 W

Again thank you for the links. I have tried to attach page 13 but it says it the file is to big. 476KB. I have reduced it but think it won't be easy to make out detail. The more I look at it I am convinced that he definitely boarded in Melbourne. I am going to try and see if I can find others on the...

Re: Looking for a ship wrecked in 1942 map ref: 175.45 W

Thank you very much for your information which I am now trawling steadily through (Can't believe just how many ships went down in May 1942) I see you also understand the map reference. I don't know where to look. Have you any idea where my map reference is? I think it can't be far away from Tonga by...
