Wreck related briefs from John Douglas in Papua New GuineaKimbe
Went to Kimbe and got a commission to do some work on 400,000 ha of logging for next year. Lots of Jungle wrecks in this area. There's supposed to be some Japanese wrecks around the local airfield but no chance to explore on this trip to look. To busy.Photo Album
I picked up a military photo album of New Guinea [1944] Japanese WWII Airstrips [vertical] with interpretation {revetments,AA guns etc]. This will help greatly when visiting such sites. Its got a couple of obscure A/S as well which is a bonusSurplus Equipment Bunkers Reported
Wrec tec in Popondetta claims to have found three sites where concrete bunkers of surplus equipment were stored and abandoned as the war moved north. These are remote coastal spotting stations And are said to contain Bulldozers, boats the odd jeep etc. No Photos though [and no planes] I'll check one out next year.Aircobra Rumors
No new wrecks located, but a tale of a good condition P-39 in a swamp out of Port Moresby to follow up on soon. Watch this space.
