USA: At midnight three LB-30s that took off from MacDill Field led by Lt. Col Austin A. Straubel flying via Trinidad, Brazil, Accra, Khartoum, Aden, Karachi, Bangalore and before arriving in Bandoeng Airfield (Bandung) on Java in January 1942.

FEAF: The ground echelon of the 17th Bombardment Squadron, 27th Bombardment Group transfers from Cabcaben to Limay. The air echelon is operating from Brisbane.

IJN: Japanese aircraft strike Sorong Seaplane Base (Doom Seaplane Base) killing three and wounding six.

USN: The first contingent of Naval Construction Battalion (NCB) "Seabees" is authorized in Navy.

Philippines: Japanese begin drive from the Agno toward Cabanatuan. In south Luzon, Japanese force 52d Inf (PA) back to Tiaong. Gen Jones receives orders to withdraw speedily to Bataan. 53d Inf (PA) moves to Bataan for rest and reorganization. The Japanese seize Luisiana on Route 1, and 1st Inf (PA) withdraws westward.

Destroyer USS Patterson (DD-392) rescues second of two groups of survivors from sunken U.S. freighter Manini at 21°06'N, 161°55'E.

USS Peary (DD-226) is damaged when mistakenly bombed and strafed by RAAF Hudsons off Kina on Celebes (Sulawesi).

IJN: Akikaze and army cargo ships Kamogawa Maru and Komaki Maru are damaged by marine casualties east of Luzon.
