Location The Allied War Cemetery (Mono Island) was located at Falamai on Mono Island in the Treasury Island Group (Treasury Islands). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). Today, located in Western Province in the Solomon Islands. Wartime History Starting on October 27, 1943 when the Allies landed on Mono Island until 1944 both New Zealand and American war dead were buried at this location. This included war dead from both Mono Island and Stirling Island and the surrounding area lost due to combat, personnel killed by air raids and aviators. Known burials include: 2nd Lt. Webster L. Kincaid, Jr. KIA January 7, 1944 piloting P-38H 42-66671 S2C Roy Goldberg, 87th Seabees KIA January 13, 1944 on Stirling Island buried on January 13, 1944 Eddie Burns, 87th Seabees (KIA January 11, 1944) buried on January 13, 1944 S1C Blake Musselman, 87th Seabees (KIA January 11, 1944) buried on January 13, 1944 S1C Art Nappen, 87th Seabees (KIA January 11, 1944) buried on January 13, 1944 S2C Donald F. Fitzgerald, 87th Seabees (KIA January 11, 1944) buried on January 13, 1944 SSgt Ernest H. Newman, radio B-25H 42-3??? died February 18, 1944 During 1945, the graves were exhumed for permanent burial elsewhere. The Americans graves were transported to the Philippines for burial at Manila American Cemetery or returned to the United States.
