USAAF Cemetery Bosnek #1 Jakarta | Java Indonesia

USAAF Cemetery Bosnek #1 was located at Bosnek (Bosnik) on the southern coast of Biak Island in Biak Numfor Regency in Papua Province in Indonesia. Prewar, part of Dutch New Guinea.

Wartime History
Following the May 27, 1944 U. S. Army amphibious landing on Biak, the U. S. Army established a cemetery at this location known as "USAAF Cemetery Bosnek #1" or "USAAF Cemetery Bosnek No. 1". American dead were buried at this location during the war.

Postwar, American Graves Registration Service (AGRS) continued to bury remains at this location that were recovered from the area including unknowns. The first two unknown burials "Unknown X-1" and "Unknown X-2" recovered from Amisira on New Guinea.

In the later 1940s, all the graves were exhumed and transported to Manila American Cemetery for permanent burial or shipment to the United States.
