Location
Sand Point Naval Air Station (NAS Sand Point) is located on a peninsula on Lake Washington to the north of Seattle. Today known as "Naval Station Seattle".
Prewar
During 1922, the U.S. Navy (USN) accepted the land installation and developed it into an air base, aviation training center, and aircraft repair depot located along Lake Washington. Its peak usage was during World War II, for crew training. Sand Point serviced aircraft from H.M.S. Warspite for the British Royal Navy.
Today
Postwar, the base was slated for closure, but continued to serve during the Berlin Airlift, Korea War, and the Cuban Missle crisis. In 1970, flight operations ceased and the base was renamed "Naval Station Seattle".
