Location Lat 5° 54' 3N Long 118° 3' 34E Sandakan Airfield is located at 46' above sea level to the northwest of Sandakan on the northwest coast of Borneo. Still in use today as Sandakan Airport in Sabah State in Malaysia. Construction Built by the Japanese using Prisoner Of War (POW) labor. The airfield had two runways, Sandakan No. 1 and Sandakan No. 2. During late 1944 Sandakan was attacked by Allied bombers and fighters until the middle of July 1945.
