Lat 0° 53' 0" S Long 131° 12' 0" E  Sorong Seaplane Base was located off Sorong.

Built prewar by the Dutch as a seaplane base with seaplanes mooring off Doom Island.

Wartime History
On December 28, 1941 bombed by Japanese aircraft, killing three and wounding six on the ground. Later occupied by the Japanese until the end of the Pacific War.

American missions against Sorong
June 10, 1943 - September 24, 1944

Japanese units based at Sorong
23rd Naval Flotilla (A6M2-N Rufe) then withdrawn to Amboina Seaplane Base
153 Kokutai, 311 Hikotai (A6M3-5 Zeros) was one time based at Sorong
