Location
Located near Dhaka in Bangladesh. During World War II, Tezgaon was part of India.

Wartime History
Built by the British as a military airfield. During World War II, used by the USAAF as a staging base for bombers bound for airfields in India.

Postwar
After Pakistani Independence in 1947, Tejgaon became the first airport to operate civil aviation in what was then East Pakistan and used as a Pakistan Air Force base.

Today
Known as Tejgaon Airport, airport code VGTJ) and is Bangladesh's sole international airport. After the construction of Shahjalal International Airport in 1981, control of this airfield was transfered to the Bangladesh Air Force. Today, it the airport status was upgraded to a domestic airport during October 2001, but no airlines service it.
