For valuable service in the air (Civil Aviation)
COMMENDATIONS

Lewis Robert Ambrose, of Northbridge, N.S.W.
An airline pilot in Qantas Empire Airways, Ambrose did excellent work in maintaining essential and vital service in flights between Java and Broome.

Russell Brooke Tapp, of Sydney.
Tapp, an airline pilot employed by Qantas Empire Airways, by his devotion to duty and tenacity, helped to keep the Empire mail and passenger route open within fourteen days of the fall of Singapore. Later, while acting as co-pilot of a flying boat which crashed in Darwin Harbour, he was brought aboard the rescue launch, but immediately re-entered the water and in darkness swam, into the interior of the sinking hull searching for survivors.
