Fred Waldron Sept 1945

Aircraft History
Built by Supermarine. This aircraft was possibly serial number SW853. Code A-CF. This Seafire was assigned to the Royal Navy Fleet Air Air (RN FAA) to either HMS Implacable or HMS Albion.

Wartime History
This Spitfire was left in a damaged condition in New Zealand.

Sometime later it was stored outdoors at Hobsonville Airfield and became an instructional airframe with the Aircraft Finisher's School, where airmen were trained to paint aircraft. Sometime afterwards, this Seafare was scrapped.

Charles Darby adds:
"I have heard stories that there was a second Seafire in NZ at the same time, but have never seen photos showing two together to confirm this. One of the Seafires (if indeed two were here) was SW815."
