Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company in El Segundo. Constructors Number unknown. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SBD Dauntless bureau number unknown. The model is unknown, likely SBD-3, SBD-4 or SBD-5. Wartime History Reportedly, this SBD was damaged during Japanese cruisers shelling Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. Wreckage The wreckge of this SBD was abandoned 100 yards off the southern end of the runway at Henderson Field. During August 1979, the wing was recovered and transported to the United States.
