Built by Douglas Aircraft Company in El Segundo. Constructors Number unknown. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SBD-5 Dauntless bureau number unknown.

Wartime History
Assigned to the U.S. Navy (USN) or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). No known markings or tail code.

Mission History
This SBD crashed on Ballale Island. Likely shot down by  anti-aircraft fire and possibly SBD Dauntless 11002 or SBD Dauntless 35976.

Wreckage
This SBD cras site includes tail hook, wing dive flaps and sperry gyroscope.

Justin Taylan adds:
"I searched for this wreckage in 2003 and 2005 and was unable to find it.  I am sure it is still there, but its a portion of the island where there is no GPS signal to get a firm waypoint."
