Built by Sikorsky. Purchased by Koninklijke Nederlandsch-Indische Luchtvaart Maatschappij (KNILM) Royal Dutch Indies Airways during 1941. Registered as PK-AFT. This flying boat entered service in the Dutch East Indies.
On December 26, 1941 while moored on Lake Tondano Seaplane Base (MVK Kalkas) near Kalkas (Kakas) on northeastern Sulawesi (Celebes), this flying boat was strafed by six A6M2 Zeros from the 3rd Kokutai and sunk.
Some sources incorrectly state this aircraft was an Sikorsky S-42 Clipper or S-42B Clipper
