Aircraft History
Built by Douglas. Assigned to the US Navy Bureau Number 39073. Assigned to the USMC, Marine Air Wing 2, Marine Air Group 25 to VMJ-152, part of SCAT (South Pacific Combat Air Transport).

Wartime History
On May 18, 1944 took off from Torokina Airfield on a flight bound for Guadalcanal at 10:08 with 23 persons (including two women) plus 1,300 pounds of mail aboard. The last radio contact with the aircraft was at the time of take-off. The state of the weather was threatening, with moderate rain showers reducing visibility from six miles to one mile. The plane was in good operating condition, having had a 1,000 hour check a week earlier. The pilot was experienced and familiar with the route.

A thorough, systematic search was carried out for two days by means of a large number of aircraft and PT-Boats. All floating wreckage in the area was investigated. No trace of the missing aircraft, nor those on board, was ever located.

The entire crew was officially declared dead on May 19, 1945. All are memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery.

Daniel Leahy adds:
"I've had Eloise Richardson (801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron) listed in PRIAM for some time, though never had the exact details of her loss. The above comes from the MACR database on Footnote, though not a specific MACR – it appears to be supplementary data as they were lost aboard a USMC aircraft."

Julius Kendricks (nephew of Alex Milton Kendrick)
"Looking for information on my uncle, Alexander M. Kendrick, 295 95 24, missing as of 18 May, 1944, lost between Torokina, Bougainville and Guadalcanal, passenger on aircraft. Unit I believe was ACORN 26"
