Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) as Catalina VI serial number JX639. Wartime History Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Catalina VI serial number A24-381. In 1945, assigned to No. 13 Air Sea Rescue Flight (13 ASRF). On September 8, 1945 assigned to No. 115 Air Sea Rescue Flight (115 ASRF). In March 1947 this Catalina operated from Hobart as part of the air sea rescue for flight of Liberators over the Antarctic. Mission History On September 28, 1948 crashed on Lord Howe Island. Wreckage A propeller from this crash and plaque are displayed on the island. Pieces from the wreckage of this aircraft were recovered by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for the restoration of PBV-1A Canso CV369 at RAAF Amberley Museum & Restoration Facility.
