Aircraft History Built by Republic at the Indiana Division of Republic Aviation in Evansville, IN. Constructors Number 1419. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-47D Thunderbolt serial number 43-25622. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 348th Fighter Group (348th FG), 340th Fighter Squadron (340th FS) "Minutemen". Tail number 22 painted in red above the serial number. No known nickname or nose art. Wartime History This P-47 crashed near Gain village near Nadzab. Wreckage During 1977, the crash site was discovered with the tail and serial number. No pilot remains were found, it is believed he successfully bailed out.
