Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U. S. Army. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.
Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 49th Fighter Group, 8th Fighter Squadron. No known nickname or nose art.
On March 1, 1943 took off from 3-Mile Drome near Port Moresby and crashed on the Kokoda Trail (exact location unknown).
Recovery of Remains
After the crash, his remains were recovered. Postwar, his remains were transported to Hawaii for permanent burial.
Lynd was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He is permanently buried at Honolulu Memorial Cemetery (Punchbowl) at plot E, grave 786.
