Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Constructors Number 21175. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40K-5-CU Warhawk serial number 42-9791. Ferried across the United States, Canada and Alaska. Wartime History This aircraft was originally intended as part of lend-lease for the Soviet Union. Instead, retained by the 11th Air Force (11th AF). On November 7, 1943 officially condemned and written off. Later, buried in a pit at Cold Bay Airfield. Wreckage During 1987 the burial pit was excavated by Dick Odgers. Afterwards Odgers did some repair work on the aircraft.
