Pilot 2nd Lt. E. M. Studley (rescued) Crashed January 22, 1944 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38 Lightning model and serial number unknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF), 347th Fighter Group (347th FG), 339th Fighter Squadron (339th FS). No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On January 22, 1944 took off piloted by 2nd Lt. E. M. Studley on a mission and was shot down. Fates of the Pilot Studley bailed out and landed in the sea and deployed his life raft. Rescue On January 22, 1944 rescued by PBY-5 Catalina pilotedd by Lt(jg) O. H. Patterson from VP-14 at roughly Lat 5° 35' South, Long 154° 00' East.
