Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank, California. Delivered to the U. S. Army serial number unknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas and reassembled.
Assigned to the 5th Air Force.
Crashed on Kirwina Island.
John Douglas adds:
"The niece of an aviator wanted to
find her uncle's plane crashed on Kirwina Island. It took a while to get the details from
Steve Cushman [from PWD Bulletin Board] but they gradually emerged. Michael
Claringbould gave some clues, and I got some more from Tim Heck.
We determined the location, and the niece and Steve Cushman traveled
to Kiriwina Island to visit the site, and this cherished history.
I met them both in Port Moresby before they departed."
