Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank, California. Converted
from a P-38L-1-LO model into a F-5E-4-LO
photographic reconnaissance version. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as F-5E-4-LO Lightning serial number 44-24953. Disassembled and shipped overseas and reassembled.
Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 6th Photographic Reconnaissance Group, 25th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron. No known nose art or nickname. Equipped with K-17 and K-18 aerial cameras.
On May 29, 1945 took off from McGuire Airfield (San Jose) on Leyte for a photo reconnaissance mission over Indo China (Vietnam). Weather was scattered cumulus clouds at 25,000' with 4/10th coverage. Last contact was ninty miles south of Palawan with 15 minutes of fuel remaining.
After being reported missing, search missions were flown by other F-5s during the same day and more searches on May 30th. No sighting were made.
Officially declared dead the day of the mission. Memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery.
