On the right side of the nose is nose number 122 in white. On the outer side of the right engine cowling is "Phoebe" in white. At the center is a group of American pilots who flew a fighter sweep over Shortland Harbor on March 29, 1943. (Standing center) 1st Lt. Joseph Moore, Captain Thomas G. Lanphier, Jr. bent over, 1st Lt. Eben Dale (VMF-124) and Captain Robert Petit wearing baseball cap and holding propeller blade. (Kneeling left to right) Henry Viccellio (did not fly mission), 1st Lt. George G. Topoll and 1st Lt. Rex T. Barber with left arm on left knee. Atop the right wing are other other personnel looking down on the group.
