Assigned to the 11th Air Force.
This aircraft crashed at the end of Cold
Bay Airfield. This aircraft was officially condemned on July 30, 1942.
After the crash, this Lightning was buried at the airfield. During 1987, parts of this aircraft were dug up by Dick
Odgers. These parts were eventually used
for the restoration of P-38J
