Background
Built by Piper Aircraft between 1938–1947. The L-4 Grasshopper was a light observation plane used by the
U.S. Army (USA) and U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) for liaison, transportation, artillery
spotting, medical rescue and other roles. Powered by a Continental air-cooled engine with a two bladed wooden propeller. Disassembled and shipped in a wooden crate for shipment overseas. Also, the wing could be disassembled for transport partially assembled.
