Wartime
History
Took off on a bombing mission against Guadalcanal. Over the target, crashed near Coffin Corner.
Stan Gajda recalls:
"This is the heavy wing center section with fuselage parts. Other fairly large parts are strewn about. I picked up an intact instrument here, a turn & bank still in a panel, I gave it to Bob Lindley who took it back to the UK. The fence from Coffin Corner is to the right only a few yards away. I don't know how far it is from Coffin Corner because I was taken to this place in a round-about way. It was not very far in a direct way to Peter Bessi's place when we went back. It was a strange episode, being led for hours up hills and down dales and around swamps."
