Pilot History
Slingerland was credited with three victories over Manila. On October 15, 1944 two Ki-43 Oscars. Also on October 17, 1944 a Ki-43 Oscar probable and Zeke over Manila.

Aircraft History
Built by Grumman. Delivered to the U. S. Navy (USN) assigned to USS Franklin (CV-13) to squadron VF-13. No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On September 8, 1944 took off from USS Franklin (CV-13) on a mission over Yap. This Hellcat ditched off Yap with pilot Slingerland unhurt.

Afterwards, Slingerland was rescued and returned to duty.
