Brown was the first African-American to be trained by the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator, and became the first African-American Naval Aviator to see combat in the Korean War assigned to Fighter Squadron 32 (VF-32). In the background is an AD Skyraider with tail letter K. On December 4, 1950 he crash landed F4U Corsair 97231 near the Chosin Reservoir.
