Aircraft History
Built by Chance-Vought. Delivered to the U. S. Navy (USN) as F4U-1A Corsair bureau number 18024.

Wartime History
Assigned to the U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) to squadron VMF-422. During January 1944, boarded USS Kalinin Bay (CVE-68). On January 24, 1944 flown to Tarawa Airfield (Hawkins Field), prior to the invasion of the Marshall Islands.

Mission History
On January 25, 1944 took off from Tarawa Airfield (Hawkins Field) on a ferry flight to Funafuti Airfield. During the flight, met a tropical storm and caused a total of twenty-two to ditch or went missing in action.

Rogers was officially declared dead on January 26, 1945. He is memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Honolulu Cemetery (Punchbowl).
