Built by Vought. Delivered to the U. S. Navy as F4U-1 Corsair bureau number 02421. Assigned to the U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) to squadron VMF-213. No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On July 17, 1943 took off from the Russell Islands piloted by Captain Foy Ray Garrison on a mission to escort U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberators plus U. S. Navy (USN) and U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) dive bombers attacking shipping off Buin on southern Bougainville. Over the target, engaged by enemy fighters. This aircraft was last seen over the target area. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
