Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai, likely 958 Kōkūtai based at Kavieng Harbor Seaplane Base.

Mission History
This Pete crashed or sank off Kavieng Harbor near Kavieng.

Wreckage
During April 2004, discovered by Dorian Borcherds / SCUBA Kavieng. Nicknamed "Deep Pete". The aircraft is on a sandy bottom at a depth of 39m. The Pete is upside down with the tail broken.

The visibility is seldom below 30m, schools of friendly bat fish accompany divers, resident snappers, sweet lips and schooling barracuda and trevally are often found here. The cowl mounted 7.7mm machine guns still in position. The mounted flexible gun which was operated from the rear cockpit is in the sand, with the drum magazine nearby.
