During early September 1939 this aircraft departed Malahang Airfield near Lae then landed at Ogelbeng near Mount Hagen where the pilots learned World War II had begun in Europe. Afterwards, they flew southeast then landing at Kaiapit Airfield on September 5, 1939 before landing at Edie Creek Airfield near Bulolo-Wau then departed southwest over Papua before landing at Merauke Airfield in Dutch New Guinea (Papua Province) where the pilots abandoned their aircraft and departed via Japan and Russia back to Germany.
