Aircraft History
Built by Douglas. Constructor Number 15205 / 26650. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force as C-47B-15-DK Dakota serial number 43-49389. Sent to New Zealand as part of lend-lease.

Wartime History
On December 30, 1944 delivered to the Royal New Zelaand Air Force (RNZAF) as Dakota serial number NZ3529. BOC by Unit 19 at Whenuapai Airfield. Assigned to 40 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On July 6, 1945 during take off from Palikulu Airfield on Espirito Santo, this Dakota swung off the runway as it became airborne before crashing into scrub that tore off both main landing gear legs. Afterwards, officially written off on July 23, 1945.
