PNGDF Former Assignments USAAF RAAF

Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 33455. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-35-DK Skytrain serial number 44-77123. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History During July 1945 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number A65-122. Postwar Converted to a DC-3. During 1980, one of seven ex-RAAF C-47s donated by Australia to Papua New Guinea (PNG for the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF). This aircraft was never flown again and never assigned a PNGDF serial number. Instead, served as a training aid at Igam Barracks near Lae. Today Since the 1980s, this Dakota is displayed at the Lae Botanical Gardens in Lae. Richard Leahy adds: "This aircraft was recently towed to the Lae Botanical Gardens where it is now."
