Aircraft History
Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Construction Number 4723. On September 15, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47-DL Skytrain serial number 41-18598.

Wartime History
On October 26, 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG), 33rd Troop Carrier Squadron (33rd TCS) in Florence, SC. Afterwards, flown across the Pacific via Hickam Field to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). In Australia assigned call sign VH-CDS. Nicknamed "The Jayhawk".

On January 12, 1943 at 5 Mile Drome (Ward) suffered a collision on the ground with C-47 41-38667. Officially condemned December 1, 1943 after an accident (it is unclear if this was due to the damage sustained on January 12, 1943 or another incident). Afterwards, C-47 41-38665 was nicknamed "The "Jayhawk" 2nd" with "Jayhawk" inside double quotes.
