Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Delivered to the U. S. Army. Assigned to the 30th Bombardment Group, 27th Bombardment Squadron. No known nose art or nickname.
On July 9,1945 took off from Wheeler Field on Oahu on a training mission to Kauai and return. Past Kauai, power failed on engine no. 2 and no 4. Lost 20 miles
southeast of Kauai crashing into Kauai Channel.
On July 11, 1945 a search was conducted at sea by Chaplin Harry O. Carr where the plane
was last observed. Also searching was the C. O. and a boat crew. Four personnel were rescued alive.
Bangs died of Heart Failure (shock).
On July 13, 1945 Bangs was buried at Scholfield Barracks Cemetery, number 6 row c grave 49. Goins, Miller and Collins are memorialized at the courts of the missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl). Goins and Collins on court 7.
