Aircraft History
Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-130-CO Liberator serial number 42-41085.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 307th Bombardment Group (307th BG), 370th Bombardment Squadron (370th BS). Nicknamed "Dumbo".

Mission History
On July 1, 1943 took off from Carney Field on a mission. Ditched off the south coast of Choiseul Island. The crew survived the ditching and proceeded to a small island nearby.

Rescue
The next day, VP-24 PBY Catalina piloted by Lt. R. A. Melrose rescued the crew.

Jim Sawruk adds:
"One thing I did notice is that 'Hardin' is spelled 'Harden' on the rescue list while the squadron photo list has him as Hardin."
