B-17E "Busy Beavers / Goonie" 41-2523 parked at Bomber 1 on Espiritu Santo
The nickname "Goonie" has the nose art of a white goonie bird in flight. Above the nickname is the outline of a four-leaf clover and a battle star with "Midway". The scoreboard has 15 bombs indicated bombing missions flown and a single row of seven Japanese flags indicating enemy fighters claimed by gunners aboard this bomber.
