Pilot James T. Murphy and his crew with B-17F "I Dood It / Pluto" 41-24543
The nose had a B-17E model nose cone added with a reinforced mount for a single forward firing .50 caliber machine gun. On the left side of the nose is the nose art of Walt Disney character "Pluto" painted by Sgt Ernie Vandal. The dark rectangle of dark green or black painted in late March 1943 covered the previous nickname "I Dood It". Above is the U.S. Army serial number stencil reads: "U.S. Army - Model B-17F Air Corps Serial No. 41-24543 Crew Weight 1200 lbs.". (Standing left to right) Pilot James T. Murphy, ?, Radio operator
