B-17F "Talisman" 41-24537 parked at airfield
Wartime caption: "(NY4 - NOV.1) Port Moresby, New Guinea - Fliers' life in New Guinea - 2nd Lt. James H. Powell of Springfield, IL, finds that caring for a US bomber on an airfield near Port Moresby is thirsty work, and takes a drink in the shade of the plane's wing. SSgt Clifford Casselbury of Binghamton, NY cleans a gun in the background. In the foreground are fins for bombs. (AP Wire Photo B11330POOL) '42"
Steve Birdsall adds:
"James Powell was Lt William O'Brien's co-pilot, and Cassellbury was one of his gunners. If the date is accurate, this is 41-24537 Talisman, and it's Mareeba, not Port Moresby."
