"Less than 300 yards from here, on April 5, 1942, ten Army Air Corps aviators perished in the service of their country.

First Lt. Charles O. Allan
Second Lt. James W. Bushee
First Lt. Ward Cox, Jr.
SSgt Mathias E. Donart
Sgt Wilbert L. Gravitt
SSgt Edward L. Hakes
Cpl John F. Morris
Cpl John E. Muckey
SSgt Luther L. Perry, Jr.
MSgt Jessie L. Schneider

They crashed their B-17E Flying Fortress serial 41-2443, returning from a routine combat patrol mission around Hawaii searching for enemy forces. They crashed in foul weather and darkness on a bleak Easter Sunday evening that claimed two patrolling combat crews within 10 miles of each other.

This plaque placed by the Hawaiian Aviation Preservation Society on the 65th anniversary of the crash. You are not forgotten..."
