Aircraft History
Built as Avro as a Model 652A between March 1936–April 1937. Contract 421119/35. Constructors Number 970. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number K6215. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Anson Mark I serial number A4-4. During 1937, assigned to No. 23 Squadron and No. 25 Squadron. During 1939, assigned to No. 14 Squadron.

Mission History
On May 16, 1940 took off from Pearce Airfield near Perth on a flight bound for Camden Airfield, but failed to arrive.

Wreckage
In 1941, the wreckage of this Anson was located by two settlers mustering sheep on Mount Torbreck near Eildon, Victoria. The remains of three of the four crew members were also located.

Pieces of the wreckage can still be found at the site. Some pieces have been collected near a memorial which has been erected near the site.

Memorials
Stowdor is still listed as Missing In Action (MIA). He is commemorated on the Sydney Memorial, panel 7.

F/O Daniel's remains were creamted at the Springvale Crematorium and he is now commemorated on the Victorian Cremation Memorial, panel 3. Cpl Hyland is buried at the Fawkner Memorial Park Cemetery at R.C. Plot. Compt. I. Grave 562. (GRM/3). Cpl Sass is interred at the Karrakatta Crematorium at H Wall. Niche 6 in Perth.

At the crash site is a memorial to those killed. There is a 2.4 km track to the memorial. In August 2014 after many years of neglect.
